3 Legislative Bills that Will Impact Your Community if Passed

The 2011 Connecticut Legislative Session has commenced and has been a busy session. We continue to monitor and review all bills impacting Homeowner Association and Condominium communities. Imagineers is a member of the Connecticut Chapter of Community Association Institute (CT-CAI) and I have served on the CT-CAI Legislative Action Committee. The Mission of the CT-CAI is to promote and advance the interests of its members and the residential community association industry in the State of Connecticut through programs, services, education and advocacy.

On March 25, 2011, I provided testimony before the State of CT Judiciary committee on how the following proposed legislation would impact Homeowner Association and Condominium communities. Included in the legislation is the creation of an ombudsman (Senate Bill No. 6620) which would be funded with a fee of $4.00 per unit, charged annually to each condominium association. The most notable and concerning bills include the following (each bill is followed by a link to my full testimony):

  • SENATE BILL No. 6620 - AN ACT CONCERNING CONDOMINIUMS AND COMMON INTEREST OWNERSHIP COMMUNITIES (For my full testimony on this bill please :(click here).

  • SENATE BILL No. 1205 - AN ACT CONCERNING FORECLOSURE ACTIONS AGAINST UNIT OWNERS IN CONDOMINIUMS OR COMMON INTEREST COMMUNITIES FOR OVERDUE ASSESSMENTS (For my full testimony on this bill please :(click here).

  • SENATE BILL No. 1208 - AN ACT CONCERNING FINANCIAL REPORTING BY CONDOMINIUM AND COMMON INTEREST COMMUNITY ASSOCIATIONS (For my full testimony on this bill please :(click here).

Please consider reviewing these bills as well as the ones listed in our legislative update article provided elsewhere in this newsletter.

I have also provided a link to CT-CAI website that outlines all of the Connecticut legislative issues that the Legislative Action Committee is tracking :(click here)

Please consider reaching out to your representatives to let them know how you feel on these important bills. Your voice can make a difference.
