Fire Marshall Accused By Condo Group of Extortion

A local condominium association claims that the Fire Marshall threatened to seek a court order to shut down the building if the association did not install a new fire alarm system. He then recommended that his wife's company be hired to do the work, according to court documents.

Connecticut Home Sales Decline Again

September condominium sales in Connecticut dropped 23% to their lowest level in more than 20 years, according to Warren Group, a real-estate data firm and author of the report. Condo median prices also posted a slight increase of less than 1% to $183,500 in September from the same month last year. The year-to-date median condo price through September inched up more than 2% to $181,000 from the same period last year.

Ice Dams, Burst Pipes, Broken Tree Limbs: Saving Your House From Winter

One of the most common results of a big storm is so-called ice dams, which are caused when snow on a roof begins to melt from the bottom layer, dripping into the gutter. That water freezes along the eaves where it hits cold air, and the resulting ice at the gutters and soffits dams up the water from melting snow, causing it to pool up on the roof and seep under shingles and into attics and ceiling, or trickle inside walls.
